A Weekend in Food

What a great weekend!

Friday night Will was really hungry. What do you want to eat when you're really hungry? Mexican! We decided to try out our first Mexican joint here. We didn't have our hopes up too high being in New Zealand and all, but Jalepenos had all the right qualities you look for in a Mexican restaurant. Paper menus, Selena playing overhead, a cheesy cartoon mascot and plastic table cloths. It was a fun, but quite ambiance and the food was just ok, but that didn't stop me from inhaling it all. I'd go back to try some other menu options in hopes of some good Mexican. The chips and salsa and margarita was great!

Saturday morning we got up early and rode our bikes to the French Market in Parnell which is a farmers' market held outside of a French food store. They had a million different kinds of vegetables, herbs, and lots of artisan producers of everything form grape juice to cheese to hummus to cupcakes! We got some of the usual: hummus, Turkish bread, sausage rolls, and tried some new things. Our newest foods trials were parsnips and tamarillos. Last night I made roasted kumara (sweet potato) and parsnips as a side to our Salmon for dinner! This morning we had tamarillos with our breakfast. We sure are expanding our food horizons!

Sunday we went to church with another couple fresh off the boat from the US, then out to brunch. We went to a really good little cafe we've never been to before. Sometimes the things you find off the street are the best ones! WARNING: What I am about to show you may cause uncontrollable drooling. I ordered the red wine blueberry vanilla pancakes with cinnamon marscapone cheese. Will had corn fritter Eggs Benedict. We had a great time chatting over delicious breakfast and flat whites.

We had a great weekend indulging in everything possible. Next week we will have to do double time at the gym!
