My Mommy and Me

Last month my mom came for a 3 week visit. Her first week was just with us, then the second week was with my Aunt Gail. I'll do another post about that Fokken Cluster on the South Island later, but for now I'll include some highlights of my time with my mom.

The first day she got here was a cracka as they said in Zelandia. We drove up to the markets in Matakana, then picnicked at Tawharanui Regional Park. It was such a great day! After I got us lost doing a nature walk, we joined Will on the beach for some serious waves. It was one of the better boogie boarding days we've had here. Will and I took turns while mom watched from the beach. With enough coaxing, she came in the water (despite saying it was cold) and had a great time.

Sunday we went to church and then walked around the downtown area including the Viaduct and Wynyard Quarter.

On Monday I took Mom out on the water. We took a ferry to Half Moon Bay to meet my friend Sarah for coffee.

Tuesday we ventured up to the Far North. We stayed 2 nights in Cable Bay and it was soo amazing. We spent some time on the beach and got dinner from the famous Maunganui fish and chips shop. It was REALLY good. While up there we went up to Cape Reinga and the Karikari Peninsula to secluded Maitai Bay and I got in the water while mom waded in. She forgot her togs--rookie mistake. Never go anywhere in NZ in summer without your togs!

The next next day Gail arrived and we putzed around Auckland including lunch at The Food Truck Garage. They were very impressed with the food and the concept. I had shown Mom several episodes of the show during the week before, and showed Gail a few that night so she could see the full story. It was an early night on Friday because we had to wake up at 5am on Saturday to make our flight for Nelson.

Stay tuned for our big South Island Adventure!
